An update to AdStaff and Press applications

TL;DR

This year, we've made a pivotal decision regarding the staffing of our conference. Recognizing the exceptional talent and specialized training of students from the International School of Bucharest (ISB) – the cradle of the FDRMUN project – we have decided to primarily allocate AdStaff and Press Staff roles to ISB students for the 2024 conference. See your alternatives as a non-ISB student.

Here's why

Communication

The existing rapport among ISB students facilitates efficient communication, which is essential for the smooth operation of the conference. Quick decision-making, effective problem-solving, and the ability to work cohesively under pressure are enhanced when team members are already accustomed to each other's communication styles and work ethics.

Streamlined Training

With the ISB students already trained and experienced in MUN-related activities, there's a significant reduction in the time and resources needed for training new staff members. This efficiency allows the organizing team to focus on other aspects of the conference.

Quality over Quantity

FDRMUN is prioritizing the quality of the conference experience over the quantity of staff. This decision again illustrates our commitment to excellence, ensuring that the event is managed efficiently and effectively, thereby enhancing the overall experience for all participants.

Coherence

Students from ISB, having collaborated on numerous projects and events, have developed a strong sense of teamwork and mutual understanding. This synergy is crucial in a dynamic and fast-paced environment like a Model United Nations conference.

Track-record

ISB students have a proven track record of successful involvement in previous FDRMUN conferences. Their familiarity with the format, rules, and procedures of the event ensures consistency in management and execution, contributing to the overall smooth functioning of the conference. This will help increase the overall quality and elevate the participant experience.

Logistical Pressure

This approach sets a precedent in the MUN community for sustainable management practices. It's important to match the scale and scope of an event with available resources to avoid burnout and ensure the success of the conference. The logistics team is trying its best to cut back.

Practical Reality

In the critical weeks leading up to the conference, the logistical demands significantly increase. Having a team that requires minimal training and is already in sync with the logistical requirements of the conference reduces the burden on our logistical team. This means they can focus on refining the conference experience rather than managing the basics of team coordination and training.

Media Excellence

ISB's media outlets, The Nest and ISBTV, have consistently demonstrated high-quality reporting and media skills. This level of expertise is what we are looking for in our Press Staff roles.

Organisational Integrity

FDRMUN is maintaining its integrity. We're committing to making decisions that are in the best interest of the conference, even if they are tough. We absolutely encourage our peer conferences, especially in the local MUN scene, to reflect about the optimization of resources in such events.

Your alternatives

Applying as a delegate

FDRMUN has a history of being a first-timer friendly conference. If you have never broken that highest, hardest glass ceiling in participating as a delegate, we're here to help. We recognise that staff and volunteer roles usually serve as powerful, affordable networking opportunities. As such, we've doubled down on both aspects of being part of the AdStaff team at FDR. We've made delegate positions accessible via aid, and through making FDRMUN a conference for all, first timers and seasoned delegates.

It's easier than ever to apply for aid

We understand that the cost can be a barrier to participation for some. To address this, we've simplified the process of applying for financial aid. Now, when you fill out the delegate application form on Portico, you'll find an option to apply for aid right there. This integration is designed to ensure that no one who wishes to participate misses out due to financial constraints Find out how. Our aim is to reduce the hassle and streamline the process, making FDRMUN more accessible to an even more diverse group of participants.

Appeal as an FDRMUN 23 alumnus or otherwise

For those outside the ISB community who are keen to contribute to the AdStaff or Press Staff roles, we welcome appeals. If you are an alumnus of FDRMUN 23 or someone with a deep-seated interest and relevant skills looking to appeal for a role in FDRMUN 24, particularly in AdStaff or Press Staff, here's a detailed perspective on how to craft your appeal:

As a former participant of FDRMUN 23, you possess a blend of experience and insight into the conference's inner workings. This experience is invaluable, providing you with a nuanced understanding of the event's dynamics, expectations, and the level of professionalism required. Your prior involvement has equipped you with a firsthand perspective on the challenges and triumphs of the conference, making you a potentially ideal candidate for the roles in question. In your appeal, emphasize the specific contributions you made in FDRMUN 23 and how these experiences have prepared you for a more significant role in the upcoming conference. Highlight any particular skills or knowledge you gained, such as effective communication, problem-solving, leadership, or technical expertise relevant to the AdStaff or Press Staff positions. Moreover, if you are not an alumnus but believe you have the necessary skills and dedication, your appeal should focus on showcasing these attributes. Detail your relevant experiences, whether in MUNs, leadership roles, journalism, media, or other related areas. Explain how these experiences have equipped you with the competencies necessary for the roles you are interested in.Regardless of your background, it's crucial to articulate a clear understanding of the responsibilities associated with the roles you're applying for and how you plan to meet them. Demonstrate your commitment to the values and goals of FDRMUN and how you envision contributing to the conference's success.
